In Agrigento, Akropolis is the only fine dining restaurant with a terrace overlooking the sea and the spectacular view of the archaeological park of the Valley of the Temples; where you will be pampered by the hospitality of the Lattuca family and the cuisine of chef Davide Giambruno.
The Archaeological Park of the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, is among the best preserved sites of classical Greek civilization with its famous Temple of Concordia “watched over” by the giant fallen Icarus by the sculptor Igor Mitoraj.
Although this view alone would be enough to make us fall madly in love with Akropolis, a lunch or dinner at the restaurant is made even more unforgettable thanks above the over 35 years of experience in the art of hospitality and catering of the Lattuca family, who founded it in 1999.
All the peoples invaded and dominated this land (…) so strong was the desire to possess it. It is the land of oranges, of flower gardens, of perfumed air… But what makes the visit indispensable for me is that it can be defined as a unique and divine museum of architecture.
(Guy de Maupassant)
Since 2007, the owner is Alfonso Lattuca who has constantly innovated the gastronomic offer of the restaurant, culminating with its renovation in 2019 which gave life to elegant and refined environments, in which the green of the surrounding nature and the blue of the sea blend with a minimal and bright interior inspired by art deco.
The protagonist of Akropolis is its terrace, unique in Agrigento, which overlooks a lush tropical garden and a breathtaking panorama that ranges from one end of the province to the other, from the temple of Concordia and Juno to the east to the temple of Hercules on the opposite side.
The open kitchen is splendid, the kingdom of chef Davide Giambruno, an artist of good Sicilian food based on tradition and the search for local products, enriched with modern techniques and aesthetic care, favoring fresh and harmonious colors.
On the menu, the main protagonist is fresh fish with dishes such as raw fish plateaux, crispy focaccia with amberjack tartare, datterino tomatoes, burrata stracciatella and basil pesto, eggplant parmigiana and fresh pasta mezzi paccheri with almond pesto and red shrimp, up to the second courses such as roasted octopus tentacles, “Luciana” sauce, ratta potatoes and bread veils or snapper in cooking oil with Sicilian broccoli and crunchy Wonton pasta. Meat and vegetable recipes are also never missing from the menu.
The wine list, curated by the passionate sommelier Antonio Vullo, has about 450 references with a particular attention to Sicilian wines and the great Italian and French labels.
The perfect experience includes a visit to the Valley of the Temples and then an aperitif with a view on one of the two terraces of Akropolis, used as a lounge area with sofas, before indulging in a fabulous dinner that always ends with the “coccole finali” (coccola meaning “cuddle” in English), an assortment of delicate biscuits and small homemade desserts to be paired with a homemade digestive.
The Secret
The Temple of Concordia is among the best preserved in the Western Greek world thanks to the fact that in the sixth century AD it was transformed into a Christian church that was used until the end of the eighteenth century.
